Dr. Carrie Sue Shaver received her Doctor of Health Administration with a graduate certificate in International Health from Central Michigan University. Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Shaver worked in the social service sector, administering disease prevention, treatment, and health and wellness programs for target populations including those at high-risk for contracting HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Shaver’s program of research focuses on frontier public health through a One Health systems framework.

She is especially interested in the health, safety, and retention of southwest borderlands agricultural workers including those who are employed in niche meat processing facilities. Another research area is the prevention, treatment, and wellness for those with opioid use disorder.

Dr. Shaver’s administrative academic work includes undergraduate and graduate health professions program development. With feedback from regional healthcare employers regarding critical and hard-to-fill healthcare positions, she led the education-to-employment pipeline initiative for southcentral Indiana. Through this collaboration, the nursing program was expanded to include three times as many undergraduate students, a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner program, and a non-clinical health advocacy baccalaureate degree.
